Gunmen suspected to be Boko Haram attacked and killed 5 members of the United Nations monitoring team

Armed men suspected to be members of the Boko Haram terrorists group killed five (5) members of a United Nations monitoring team at the Nigeria-Cameroon border in a recent attack on Tuesday.
According to the statement issued by Mohamed Chambas, the UN envoy for West Africa and the Sahel, three (3) of the victims are Nigerians.
“According to preliminary reports, at around 14:00 hours, yesterday (Tuesday), an unknown armed group attacked a UN Technical Monitoring Team, killing five individuals – a UN independent contractor, three Nigerians nationals and one Cameroonian national – and injuring several others,” he said.
“The team was conducting a field mission in the vicinity of Hosere Jongbi, near Kontcha, Cameroon, about 700 kilometres north of the capital Yaoundé, as part of the Cameroon-Nigeria Mixed Commission mandate,” he added.
The UN vehemently condemned the attack and called on the Nigerian and Cameroonian Authorities to bring the perpetrators to justice.
One of the victim identified as Zakari Bakari, was the Assistant Surveyor-General of Taraba State.
The other victims are from Jigawa, Kenya and some staff of the National Boundary Commission.
They were all killed in a Cameroonian village known as Koncha village.
