‘Sacked police officers saved me from assassination,’ Governor says

Wike said that the dismissed officers prevented security agents from killing him during the December 2016 legislative rerun elections in the state.

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike has said that the six police officers who were recently sacked after being attached to him lost their jobs because they protected him from an assassination attempt.

Wike said that the dismissed officers prevented security agents from killing him during the December 2016 legislative rerun elections in the state.
The governor made the comments on Tuesday, January 25, 2017, during a meeting with the Aluu council of chiefs at the Government House in Port Harcourt.
“The policemen were dismissed  because they  did not allow the security agencies to assassinate  me as was planned,” he said.
“The security agencies planned to assassinate me, but those attached to me resisted the plot and refused to allow them kill me. That is why they are angry and desperate.
“The actions of security agencies during the December 10 re-run election have alerted us on how they plan to rig the 2019 elections.  We are now prepared for them,” he added.
The officers, one Inspector and five sergeants, were fired for misusing their weapons during the elections.
The affected officers were identified as Eyong VictorPeter EkpoOguni GoodluckOrji NwokeOkpe Ezekiel and Tanko Akor.
